LIQUID STONE HOUSE
Location
Northern Spain
Project type
Single-family home · extension · renovation · interior design
Deep in the mountains of northern Spain, an old stone house has been transformed into a contemporary retreat that exudes calm, understated elegance, and sophistication. Piedra Líquida (Liquid Stone) is the name of this architectural intervention that honors the site's history while projecting a new way of living, where matter and light converse harmoniously.
The renovation begins with a pre-existing structure of masonry walls, preserved and reinterpreted as witnesses to the past. The extension, executed with geometric precision, is articulated through volumes of clean lines and noble materials that contrast with, yet blend seamlessly into, the original structure. The result is a home that doesn't seek to impose itself on the environment, but rather to integrate with it through a quiet and profoundly sensory aesthetic.
The interior design, conceived as a natural extension of the architecture, is based on a palette of grays, blacks, and organic textures. The furniture, continuous surfaces, and soft lighting create introspective atmospheres, where every corner invites contemplation. Large glazed openings allow the landscape to permeate the space, blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior, and making nature an active part of the domestic experience.
Liquid Stone is not just a renovated house: it is a statement of principles on how to intervene in existing structures with respect, sensitivity, and a contemporary vision. An example of how architecture can be both memory and future.
